Laptop backup software - How to get safe solution

There are millions employees, which using laptop as main computer for everyday work. A lot of these employees working outside of a central office: laptops using in business trip or at home. Home users prefer laptops, because it takes a small space at home and can be used in traveling.

Laptops have a high risk to be damaged or stolen. Special challenge for portable computers is power loss while data writing to disk. In this case, data can be distorted or fully damaged. Laptop computer are moved often, but it susceptible to shakings and sensitive components, especially the hard disk, can be damage. Most valuable data, as corporate data (client contacts, emails, spreadsheets, portable schedulers, databases), as personal data (photos, videos), can be lost forever. There is no chance to recreate it from scratch using paperback documents and photos.

Many users of mobile computer have no regular backup of laptop or never backup their data. But automatic data backup is reliable way to keep irreplaceable data safe from any danger.

At beginning, you decide what data is valuable to backup. Most new computers have laptop backup DVDs with restoration software or one-click software to create such DVDs. Therefore entire hard drive backup of the laptop is not necessary. Vital files can be backing up by third-party backup software.

By default, Microsoft operating system save files into special folders (documents, pictures, music, video). Full path to these folders depend on version of operating system. Many users don't care where files saved and Microsoft Windows save it to default folders. Other users use own created folders to save documents. In first case backup software allows to add default folders with user data. In second case user can add own folders manually.

Most of backup software can backup files by type, i.e. including or excluding files by type. For example, such filter allows to create one backup for office documents (texts, spreadsheets, emails) and another backup for personal files (music, video).
Here list of common file types:
1) Office text documents - doc, docx, rtf, txt;
2) Office spreadsheet documents - xls, xlsx;
3) Office presentation document - ppt, pptx;
4) Adobe portable document - pdf;
5) Images - jpg, png, bmp, gif, tif;
6) Video - wmv, mpg, mov, flv, avi.

Next important thing is backup storage. It must be durable to transportation and keeping in environment. Period of backup keeping, data amount and price are the main criteria to choose type of laptop backup storage:
1) External hard disk - cheap for huge data backup, but it sensitive to shaking;
2) DVD - durable against mechanical vibration, electrical and magnetic fields. It is cheap solution for long-time storage. It requires a lot of space to keep multi-disk backup;
3) Flash disk - durable against mechanical vibration, short-term storage, small amount of data limited by cost of device, high risk of electrical damage during disconnection from computer;
4) Internet storage - safe against building fire, natural and technical disaster. It can be used for a small amount of data, which size is limited by internet connection speed. There is additional risk of unauthorized access to business or private data.

Scheduling allow to make laptop backup automatically. Built-in backup software can absent in low-end Windows editions (starter, basic, home) or it has a limited scheduling functionality. More information about how to backup files on Windows 7 you can get from article "Automatic Backup in Windows 7". Third-party backup software has own scheduler. Check scheduler features to meet your requirements. For example, extra requirements, as backup changed or new files every 2 hour, supported only by advanced schedulers with flexible options.

Summary:
1) Check what all valuable files are selected for backup;
2) Use durable storage with enough size;
3) Set an automatic backup by scheduling.
